Self Cleaning Ovens Are Dangerous for Parrots

There is evidence that self-cleaning ovens emit toxic fumes during the self-cleaning cycle. The fumes are not PTFE but pyrolysis products of fats and other material inside the oven. It is known that many birds staying in the kitchen during the self-cleaning cycle died soon after this. Using the self-cleaning feature can be safe for the birds if they are not kept in the kitchen during the process and the kitchen has good ventilation (open windows or fans). So make sure your pet bird is in another part of the house when the self-cleaning feature is on. Remember that birds can be brought into the kitchen only after the oven has cooled down.
