Name: Magnum (Maggie)
Species: Yellow-Naped Amazon
Age: Born in 1988
Status: Wild-captured
History:

When I got TJ there were next to no Yellow Napes being sold the week I arrived. When I went down to California the next year, I was able to look at over 50 Yellow Napes between the ages of 3 to 6 months of age. We walked into a bird place and several cages were being brought into the facility. The birds had just come from the quarantine station. There were ten other Napes in with Maggie.

They huddled in a corner of their cage. Maggie, left the others and came over to visit my daughter and me. We walked away from the birds several time and each time we returned, Maggie left the other birds to visit with us. We had looked at domestic as well as wild-captured birds. Maggie was by far the calmest, most out-going young bird we had seen and bought him on the spot.

Maggie and TJ were close friends for several years. They would play together and wrestle on the floor like two puppies. Their favorite game was to tease Blue Front Pepper who was much older than they were. One bird would distract Pepper and the other would sneak up behind Pepper and pull his legs out from under him so that he would fall. Then both Napes would run off together. Pepper got so he would not come out of his cage if he saw the two birds were together. He was fine if only one was out, but he knew that when those two birds got together they were up to no good. When they became sexually mature, TJ and Maggie's close relationship ended.
Cute Moment:

One day while I was at church, Maggie got out of his cage. He took all the pictures off the walls in the bird room and sent them crashing to the center of the floor. Everything that had been on a shelf, stand, or table was now on the floor. Thank heavens I had pulled the cords of the full spectrum lights as he pulled them off the walls and then bit through the cords. He did not chew any woodwork or furniture but the room looked as if a tornado had hit it. When I walked into the room, Maggie was on top of his cage. Standing very proudly surveying his decorating he told me, "Good. Good." When I walked into the room.

Maggie is my best model for clothing. He holds himself the best.

TJ slouches and I have to remind him to sit up straight. Maggie seldom has to be told to have good posture.
